Warner Bros. has confirmed that Tenet, the upcoming time-bending thriller from Christopher Nolan, is still on track for its theatrical release this July.
CEO Ann Sarnoff recently reaffirmed the studio’s commitment to the cinematic experience and that Tenet is a film that deserves to be seen in theaters, once it is safe for viewers to do so.
“We are committed to — and are excited about — releasing Tenet in theaters this summer or whenever theaters reopen. We remain supportive of the theatrical experience and our exhibition partners, and are confident that our tentpole titles, including Tenet and Wonder Woman 1984, are exactly the type of films that will have people eager to return to theaters,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
Warner Bros. has made some big changes to their release schedule in the wake of coronavirus closures, including postponing their upcoming Scoob! and The Batman. While those films have new release dates, their film, Malignant, has been delayed indefinitely.
Whether or not theaters will be re-opened by July is a question we can’t answer. A lot can change and happen by then. But as big fans of Nolan and his work, we are willing to wait however long to see this one in a theater.
