A Buggy Launch for Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 finally launched last week, after years of development and many delays, and while the game has been received with mostly positive reception, the game’s version on base PlayStation 4’s and Xbox One’s has been met with some severe criticism. So much so that the game’s developer, CD Projekt Red has apologized for not sharing video of these versions before release.
Issued in a statement via Twitter, the studio takes the moment to apologize to players, saying:
“First of all, we would like to start by apologizing to you for not showing the game on base last-gen consoles before it premiered and, in consequence, not allowing you to make a more informed decision about your purchase. We should have paid more attention to making it play better on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.”

They go on to say that console improvements have already begun to roll out, starting last week with hotfix 1.04 and continuing in another update to come out within seven days. CDPR says they will update whenever possible and that there are two more major updates to come in January and February. They also are clear that the PC version will receive updates as well.
Refunds Are Being Offered
CDPR is also going to be offering full refunds for console versions owners who don’t want to wait for the updates to come:
“For copies purchased digitally, please use the refund system of PSN or Xbox respectively. For boxed versions, please first try to get a refund at the store where you bought the game. Should this not be possible, please contact us at email@example.com and we will do our best to help you. Starting from today, you can contact us for a week up until December 21st, 2020.”
After so many years of development and hype, it was certainly unlikely for Cyberpunk 2077 e to ever live up to its monstrous expectations. Regardless, the issues it has are enough to cause such an uproar within the console gaming community. It is all valid, of course, but at least it appears CDPR is going to be trying to make things right. We just feel sad for the developers who may have to be working further crunch to get these updates out.
