From Film to Gaming
There’s just an abundance of jokes you could make at the expense of just this one quote from Daisy Ridley. But for the sake of being nice and not making this all about how much I dislike the Star Wars sequels, we’ll focus more on Ridley herself.
Turns out that Daisy Ridley has not had the best of luck finding film roles after the conclusion of the Star Wars trilogy. Mentioning how she’s had a lot of downtime to reflect and look back on the character of Rey and how she processed that role. Perhaps there is some issue of being typecast, or she’s just one of many other Star Wars actors who just never quite moved on.

Daisy Ridley is set to star in an upcoming video game from Xbox Games Studio called 12 Minutes. This game itself has an absolutely stellar voice cast lined up for the project. Featuring Willem Dafoe, James McAvoy and of course, Daisy Ridley. The game is also being developed by Luis Antonio, who worked as a lead artist for Rockstar and Ubisoft.
Funnily though, 12 Minutes is the only upcoming project that we can see Daisy Ridley in. As she spent the last few months trying out, auditioning and not being offered any film roles.
“It was so sad to finish. When the film was released, I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ It was such a huge chapter. And, weirdly, the past few months of not having much… Obviously now it’s really nice to be working, but not having much [at the time] I feel like I processed the last five years. To be forced to slow down, it was good mentally for me because [Star Wars was] a big thing in my life. Weirdly, at the beginning of the year nothing was coming through,” she continues. I was like, ‘Aww! No one wants to employ me.’”
Daisy Ridley did a tremendous job at portraying Rey
Honestly we’re not so sure why Daisy Ridley hasn’t been offered more roles. While we absolutely have our fair share of issues with the character of Rey, Daisy Ridley did a tremendous job at portraying her. Showcasing her abilities to be charming, funny, dramatic and emotional. During those films she also turned in a solid performance in Murder on the Orient Express and Ophelia. Cementing that she has a good range of acting, just maybe hasn’t been handed the best scripts or screen time.
Sadly this is something that just becomes common with actors from Star Wars. Harrison Ford kinda gave up on acting, Mark Hamill went into voice acting, Hayden Christensen retired, Ian McDiarmid more or less retired, Carrie Fisher dropped off etc. Even from the most recent movies, it’s been pretty rare for the actors to continue finding high level work. With exceptions to the rule obviously.
Ewan McGregor has gone on to make some incredible films, including one of our recent favorite superhero films, Birds of Prey. Oscar Isaac has starred in several great films like Ex Machina, Annihilation and the upcoming Dune remake. So there has been some give and take.
Unfortunately it seems that Daisy Ridley has not been as fortunate as the others. She’s now dedicating much more time into voice acting, which we can’t say we’d complain about that either. Going the route of Mark Hamill and cementing her talents as a voice actress.
