Amazon Facing Antitrust Probe In EU Over Use Of Marketplace Data

The European Union is arranging an antitrust investigation concerning e-commerce mammoth Amazon over its treatment of third-party traders that depend on the organization’s commercial center to sell products, the Wall Street Journal reported.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the EU examination pursues a settlement among Amazon and experts in Germany on third-party merchants that brought about the organization consenting to change portions of its terms of service, including conveying notice 30 days before suspending accounts and “reducing confidentiality stipulations for sellers.”

EU investigators are particularly concerned whether Amazon is “abusing its dual role as a seller of its products and a marketplace operator.”

When the investigation started in September 2018, reports showed that the EU had not found any proof of misconduct.

A spokesperson from Amazon said that they will cooperate fully with the European Commission and will continue working hard to support businesses of all sizes and help them grow.
