The FBI Is Looking Into the Mysterious Sighting

After this weekend’s bizarre news story of a commercial airline pilots spotting a man in a jet pack near Los Angeles International Airport, the FBI has announced an investigation into the incident.

The Bizarre Story

It all started when an American Airlines pilot radioed the control tower at LAX and to report a man in a jetpack was flying on the plane’s left-hand side at about the same altitude as the airplane. This altitude was 3,000 feet and about 10 miles out from landing. The direct quote from the pilot, as reported by The Los Angeles Times is:

“Tower, American 1997. We just passed a guy in a jet pack.”

You can listen to the full radio calls here.

Another pilot from JetBlue Airways also called in to report seeing the same man.

A Story Ripe for the Memes

We know this kind of story is ripe for the jokes and memes, and we encourage you all to have at it. But we do want to note that if this man was obstructing the path for the incoming aircrafts, then the FBI could charge him with endangering the aircraft and the people onboard.

There quite a few aerospace and defense industry companies are located close to LAX. It could be one of their R&D projects, or perhaps just some crazy rich guy who has too much time on his hands.
