Whedon: The Career Slayer
After the update that Ray Fisher and Gal Gadot continued lambasting Joss Whedon, we didn’t expect something to happen. Now, something might truly change, because they’re being joined by some of Whedon’s biggest crews.
One of Joss Whedon’s biggest and most famous projects was Buffy: The Vampire slayer. It launched his career and put him on most filmmaker/nerds top directing lists. After the massive success of the show, he went on to direct and write Firefly. Widely considered as one of SciFi’s best TV series of all time. Even if it was cancelled prematurely.
Afterwards, Joss Whedon would be tapped by Marvel to come on and direct their Avengers movie. A movie that cemented his name to casual audiences and exploded his popularity into the stratosphere.
Followed up that success with several episodes of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series. Then would later on direct Avengers: Age of Ultron, which was a huge box office success. However, now a new allegation is coming out of the crew that worked on Buffy.
Toxicity and Abuse
Jeff Pruitt and Sophia Crawford, two stunt coordinators who worked on the project had some harsh words for Joss Whedon. The two coordinators were dating at the time that they worked on the show, they would later marry each other, and Whedon was harsh. He told the couple that they would need to break up to continue working on the show.
Which, obviously did not happen. Pruitt elaborated on this with some pretty choice words for Joss Whedon.
“He said that ‘no one will ever hire you again after this,. He went from the humble writer who used to turn to me for ways to shoot fight scenes into a real egomaniac.”
If this comes as a shock to you, it really shouldn’t, because Joss Whedon has been put through the ringer lately.
I believe Jeff Pruitt and Sophia Crawford. Thank you two for standing up and speaking out! 🙏🏽https://t.co/I6Y0UKdGT9

Ray Fisher, who we’ve talked about before, began the conversation a couple of weeks back. He began by saying that he wanted to retract any of the support that he had held for the director on Justice League. Only a couple of days later, he went on to directly accuse Joss Whedon of abusive and toxic behavior.
Saying that he was increasingly negative and controlling of people on set. This was then followed up by Kevin Smith who said he heard first hand reports of CGI artists saying the same. Disturbingly, the CGI artists described Whedon in much the same way as Pruitt.
It Wasn’t Just Fisher
Calling him an egocentric director who continuously puts people down emotionally. As well as saying that he would do everything he could to insult and reshoot Zack Snyder’s original cut of the film.
Gal Gadot also shared a rather distressing story about Joss Whedon. Telling interviewers that Whedon shot a sexual scene without her consent, and then replaced her to reshoot it. Overall just disgusting behavior from Joss Whedon over the course of the film shoot.
As at the time of writing, Joss Whedon has yet to issue any statement on the claims. Also considering his divorce from Kai Cole who had nothing good to say about him, the odds are stacked against him.
While it is too early to say, Joss Whedon is quickly becoming a topic of controversy among filmmakers. His filmography is going to start coming under a lot more scrutiny in the days to come.
