Notre Dame Testing Positive
Five football players for Notre Dame has tested positive for the coronavirus and six more are in quarantine through contact-tracing methods, as announced by the school on Thursday.
The School Has Already Moved Online
As a result of these positive tests, the team has cancelled practice today and will undergo another round of testing on Friday. The school says that the team will return to practice based on medical staff advice.
This comes just a couple days after the school announced it would be moving to remote learning until at least September 2nd due to rising coronavirus cases on campus. The football team organization underwent two rounds of testing this week, with a total of 232 tests being administered.
They Have Been Testing for Awhile
Notre Dame began testing on June 18th and has administered 851 tests to members of the football program, with nine total positive cases. Two of those positive tests were from initial screening.
It’s not a good sign for college football this season, with many conferences already postponing or cancelling their seasons due to the pandemic. We will see what Notre Dame does and if they end up having to cancel it as well.
