One of the more anticipated games of the year was Amazon’s first official foray into the gaming sphere, New World. Unfortunately, it seems that we’ll have to wait for it a bit longer. As New World is delayed, officially.
You’ve most likely guessed the culprit already; yup, Coronavirus is to blame here once again. Since the development team is having to work from home, they have an increased margin of error and things are slowing down. Luckily, the game is still in progress for the developers, just on a bit of hiatus while things are figured out.
An update published by the development team reads:
“Like most of you, our entire team has been sequestered as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic. While we are still making great progress, developing an ambitious MMO like New World remotely has introduced some challenges. We want to make sure that we have the time needed to make New World the very best it can be for our players. As a result, we’ve chosen to delay the game’s release in order to reach our quality bar as we work remotely for the foreseeable future.”

Not all is dour and grim
There are still consistent updates, and the current running Alpha for the build is still taking sign ups for those who want to test it out.
New World has no new release date set right now. While the game looks to be rather ambitious, fun and exciting, it could be a while before a full Beta is in order. And even longer as things progress for the game to have a full release.
Nonetheless, good on Amazon for having the foresight to admit that the game will take longer than anticipated. As studios like Bethesda and Ubisoft hunker down for game delays, it’s good to see some honesty.
What do you make of New World’s delay? Do you think that it makes sense or are you a little bit annoyed that you have to wait longer for Amazon’s MMO? Be sure to let us know in the comments and on social media!
