Self-Driving Cars May Not Be The Answer For Older Drivers
When autonomous cars entered the market, most of them stated that seniors would benefit from self-driving cars more than young people.
A new study conducted by Dr. Shuo Li of Newcastle University showed that older people might have serious trouble managing autonomous vehicles.
The main moto of self-driving cars was riding for the people who couldn’t drive anymore or were facing problems while driving.
The autonomous car needs to be controlled by the driver sometimes, in such situations, young people can easily shift towards driving, while older people may not be that fast to take control.
The study measured the takeover time of old drivers and young drivers when self-driving cars lost control which concluded that older people took more time than younger drivers.
The auto industry experts predict that fully autonomous cars will be prohibitively costly.
