UFC star, Jon Jones, has been arrested for alleged aggravated DWI and negligent use of a firearm.
The arrest happened in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with Jones being released from custody later Thursday morning. Jones was also charged with possession of an open container and no proof of insurance.
Jones tested for “at or above twice the legal limit” when he was administered a breathalyzer test.
According to the criminal complaint, an police officer heard a gunshot around 12:58 a.m., and when he investigated, he saw a man in a black Jeep with someone at the passenger side.
The officer wrote that he saw an open bottle of alcohol in the passenger seat and that Jones said he didn’t know where the gunshot came from. Another officer was called and after administering the test, Jones was arrested.
Upon search, a handgun was found under the driver’s seat.
Jones’ team declined to comment on the situation.
The UFC issued a statement saying it was aware of the incident and that they were working with Jones’ team to gather additional information.
Jones was on probation for a disorderly conduct charge stemming from an April 2019 strip club incident, but that ended on January 8th.
Jones is the longtime light heavyweight champion, winning the title for the first time in 2011. He is considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the UFC, though he has faced his fair share of trouble outside of the cage.
This would be Jones’ second DWi after being charged with the crime in 2012.
