Nicki Minaj’s Husband Arrested, Pleads Not Guilty of Not Registering as Sex Offender

Kenneth Petty, the husband of Nicki Minaj, is being haunted by his past after being arrested for not registering as a sex offender.

After turning himself in to federal custody, Petty faced a judge this afternoon where he pled not guilty to the charges. Prsoecutors asked for Petty to be placed on house arrest, but his attorney objected and instead, he will be required to wear an ankle monitor and be held to a curfew. He will also restricted to traveling in Southern California and will be unable to use any drugs, including marijuana. He is going to post $100,000 bail and will have another hearing on March 23rd.

Petty’s status as a sex offender stems from a 1995 conviction for first-degree attempted rape. He served almost four years in New York state prison and was required to register as an offender.

Petty moved to California in 2019, when he and Minaj got married, but failed to register in the state. During a traffic stop in November 2019, the police officer was able to determine that Petty was a sex offender in New York, but had not registered in California. He was arrested and later released on a $20,000 bail. It would appear that he did not check-in after that incident and the feds got involved in the case.

If convicted on the federal charge for failure to register, Petty could face up to 10 years in prison.

We will update this story as more information comes out.
