We Are Going Back to the Grid

After years and years of rumors and development stalls, the third Tron film is starting to gain momentum as Deadline reporting that the film has tapped Garth Davis, the director of Lion, to helm the movie with Jared Leto set to star.

According to Deadline:

Tron would mark Davis’ first tentpole, and though he is not known for big-budget projects, insiders say Davis aggressively pursued the job, eventually winning over execs.”

Deadline is also quick to clarify that while the movie is currently in development at Disney, it has not been given the official greenlight for production. This means that it is still not a guarantee that the movie will ever see the light of day. But it sounds like the third film could be closer than ever before.

Rumors Have Been Swirling for A Long Time

Rumors of the Leto-led Tron film began to circulate in 2017 when The Hollywood Reported said that the film would be a series reboot, rather than a direct sequel. Leto is reportedly playing a new character called Ares, a character that is rumored to have been a big part of the previously abandoned Tron 3 script.

Unfortuantely, Tron himself won’t be making an appearance in the film as Bruce Boxleitner has said he is done with the role. We also don’t know if Jeff Bridges will be returning for the film as well after starring in the previous two.

Justin Springer, producer for Tron: Legacy, is on board to produce the new one. If the movie ends up moving forward, Leto and his producing partner, Emma Ludbrook, will also help produce the film.

We Are All About This Film

While maybe not a revolutionary film in terms of its narrative, Tron: Legacy was an incredible example of visual flair and contained enough charm to help drive it. We would love to see the series brought back into the mainstream.
