Amazon CEO Bezos’ Divorce Finalized at $38 Billion Settlement

It was reported earlier that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife MacKenzie Bezos are getting divorced. The couple announced the news on Twitter in January 2019.

After 25 years of marriage, the couple got divorced by a Seattle-area judge on Friday with a settlement of $38.3 billion worth of Amazon stock to MacKenzie.

In April Amazon said in a filing that they would register 4% of its outstanding stock or 19.7 million shares in MacKenzie Bezos’ name after the permission of the court for a divorce.

Jeff holds a 12% stake which is about $114.8 billion and with that, he has maintained the position of world’s richest person.

MacKenzie Bezos will give Jeff voting control of her shares, and has decided to contribute her half of wealth to charity to join a campaign “Giving Pledge”.

The Giving Pledge is a campaign formed in 2010 by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to encourage wealthy people to donate a majority of their fortune to philanthropic causes.
