Lyft partnering with Waymo to launch Self-driving rides in Phoenix

Business Insider reports, Lyft is deploying Waymo’s self-driving car in the Phoenix area. A report from Lyft insiders says they will provide ten of Waymo’s Robo-taxis on its app. The consumer will have the option to select their ride with the app.

The company declared the news on Tuesday with the earnings report of its first quarter. Lyft and Waymo became partners four months after the launch of Waymo One, commercial ride-hailing service in Phoenix.

The cars are fully autonomous but the company is hiring drivers for safety purposes. Currently, only 10 cars will be available on the app.

The step is taken to increase the revenue of the company, as Lyft faced a loss of $1.1 billion in the first fiscal quarter of 2019.

If the partnership becomes successful and grows its revenue then maybe more of Waymo’s cars will be added with Lyft.

The Waymo One relationship has the potential to be a great success for the company. They hope their partnership will make a profitable business in the future.
