The former president of the United States, Barack Obama, will be throwing some support behind Joe Biden. In a video message that went out only a short while ago, Obama announced his endorsement of the Democratic nominee.
In the video he praises Bernie Sanders for his desire to change and simultaneously throws his full support behind Biden.
Obama’s length video definitely reminds people of his oratory skills and his penchant for gravitas. He makes solid points and gives a strong case for why he’s choosing to unite behind Biden.
He does not simply use this video as a way to gain some more political points, more so that it was also the right time to offer advice and criticism. He praised Sanders for his steadfastness and his consistency towards progressivism in the face of ridicule. While also offering some fairly direct criticism of the current Administration under Trump.
“One thing everybody has learned by now is that the Republicans occupying the White House and running the US Senate are not interested in progress. They’re interested in power.”
You may be wondering why Obama did not throw his support behind someone sooner, and while we may never know the answer, there is a theory. Namely that while Sanders represented the forefront of progressivism, he was too aggressive with it. Meaning that most people could not see past the problems and acknowledge his solutions.
Simultaneously however, Biden was Obama’s Vice President and the two became very close friends over the course of his presidency. Meaning that Obama does have that feeling of quality and reassurance in someone he knows so well.
