The NBA has decided to postpone the rest of the regular season for the foreseeable future due to the coronavirus.
The news shortly after the game scheduled between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Utah Jazz was postponed just moments before tip-off after Jazz center, Rudy Gobert, was said to be feeling ill.
Fans were quickly exited out of the building after being told they were okay.
A little while after the incident, the NBA made their decision and Gobert was found to have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Today has been a crazy one for sports, with the NCAA announcing their decision to ban fans from attending the national tournament next week, to the Warriors-Nets game tomorrow being announced to be without their spectators as well, though that game is now postponed.
The NBA seems to be making the call to avoid any risks. While there have been plenty of discussions around the sports world about what leagues want to do, there have been many different decisions about it. We we will see if any other leagues follow in the NBA’s footsteps, and we will see if we even have an end to the season. The playoffs are supposed to begin in April, but this postponement will surely affect this.
