HALF LIFE ALYX – Internet and Critics find common ground in Valve’s latest Masterpiece

Over ten years has gone by since we had a full fledged Half-Life game. While Alyx won’t answer a ton of the questions that are remaining after Chapter 2, it does it’s own thing. And it is incredible.

Taking place before the events of Half-Life 2, you take control of the titular character and fan favorite; Alyx Vance. As you struggle to build a resistance against the combine, solve puzzles, engage in hard hitting combat and get the crap scared out of you.

Many were wondering how exactly Alyx would stand up to scrutiny. Most VR games find themselves being built on a gimmick and being unable to really stand up to testing and hard gameplay usage. Alyx not only surpasses that, but actively improves on it.

Gameplay is fluid, intuitive and responsive. Everything feels coordinated and controlled, which is a strength unto itself.

While I am only halfway through the game myself (Destiny 2’s latest season, Warzone and replaying KOTOR kinda ate up some free time.) It’s easy to see that Alyx is more than just a gimmick.
