Sonic's New Look

Sonic’s New Look

After the initial reactions to the original design of Sonic the Hedgehog which shattered gamers outlook on the character based off the trailer that was released in April. Sonic now has a new look that has his fans able to sleep a night. Fans criticized the original trailer for portraying Sonic as a “human-like” creature because of his realistic-looking teeth, and the shape of his legs. After Paramount decided to send Sonic back for a makeover, the film has a new feel to it. Although the film was due to release in November 2019, it is now being pushed back to 2020 because of the redesign process.

Now, the electric blue hedgehog has its traditional cartoon character image. With massive larger, more animated eyes, white gloves instead of white hands, and thin legs. Making Sonic look less human and more like a video game character. After the new trailer was released with Sonic’s new design, fans are pleased and are now more excited about the film’s release even though they must wait a few more months.

Director Jeff Fowler tweeted back in May that he thanked the criticism, and that everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be, saying this; “Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be…”. With Tim Miller as the executive producer, you can expect the movie to be action-packed, so the characters need to look the part. Fans really want to feel like they are being entertained as if they are playing the video game themselves over watching something where they just stole the video game’s concept. Sonic the Hedgehog is a well-respected video game in which it should give the audience what they want.

On a positive note, fans are responding well to the fact that Sonic the Hedgehog movie went to these great lengths. Making many individuals on social media to push people to go out and buy tickets to the movie as a way of thanking the creators for making the changes. It is because of the box office success the reason these changes were made. Now, If the people who complain don’t go see the movie in theaters, then all that money that was spent to redesign the character was all for nothing.

Sonic the Hedgehog is set to hit theaters on Feb. 14, 2020
