It may be quite a few months since The Rise of Skywalker was released and started a divisive storm on the internet, but it has not slowed the news and rumors down at all. Now, we have a character from Episode 9 saying she is ready for a spinoff.
Naomi Ackie joined the forces in a galaxy far, far away when she portrayed Jannah, a former Stormtroper, in the last movie. She came out strong and her use of her space bow was pretty sweet. She was a strong character, and now, it looks like Ackie is interested in reprising the role in a spin-off, based on comments she made to Digital Spy:
“Jannah was a completely new character and I like the idea that the Star Wars universe is expanding. I think Jannah could get a spinoff. She has a really rich backstory that [director] J.J. [Abrams] told me about, and a future that we still don’t know about.”
This certainly piques our interest as we now know that there is an extensive backstory to the character, and Ackie knows about it. Her comments are sure to excite many fans who are looking for news on where the series’ future will go from here. That much is unknown as Disney and LucasFilms are focused on producing content for the small-screen, a.k.a. Disney+.
At the end of Rise of Skywalker, Jannah was bound to go on an adventure with Lando Calrissian, so if this spin-off does happen, maybe this will be the story we get to see.
We will have to wait and see what Disney has up their sleeve and gives us an official announcement.
