Tiger King, Joe Exotic, Did Not Sing His Own Songs

Despite taking the entertainment world by storm recently after the release of his Netflix documentary, Tiger King, Joe Exotic had some dirt coming out about him: he did not sing his own songs.

The documentary is all about Exotic’s story and experiences in the “big cat” community. While the film is mainly dedicated to his story of hired assassins, rivals, and prison sentences, there is one detail that the movie briefly mentions: that of his music-making career.

His attempt at creating music as a career included several music videos of him appearing to sing the songs. However, it turns out, the Tiger King himself actually wasn’t the one singing at all.

As told by his former producer, Rick Kirkham, Joe Exotic didn’t write or sing any of his songs.

“It was absolutely ridiculous,” explains Kirkham. “One time, Joe got a little bit drunk and high, and we actually coaxed him into singing part of one of the songs. He couldn’t even hold a tune. It was just so ludicrous.”

The true artists behind the songs are actually Vince Johnson and Danny Clinton, who had produced the songs for free with the assumption that they would be used in an upcoming reality show.

In describing the whole thing, Johnson had this to say: “had no idea he was going to Milli Vanilli the songs.”

Clinton was the one who was singing in the tracks, but he passed away in October before the documentary was released.

The legend of the Tiger King was bizarre to begin with, and this just adds to that feeling. It is truly crazy to realize how many larger-than-life figures we have in the world.
