10 BEST SciFi Movies to Stream Right NOW!

260 0

Science Fiction is one of the best avenues of entertainment in the modern day, and some of the best films to be produced ever. With that in mind, here are our picks for the 10 best SciFi movies currently available to stream!

The Endless – Netflix

Death cults, UFO’s, mind bending visuals and stellar direction make The Endless an engrossing watch.

Filmed, directed and acted by two people, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, the film follows two brothers. They find themselves escaping from a radical cult that worships UFO’s, but strange circumstances find them wandering back.

The Endless is intensely paced, increasingly horrifying and beautiful to watch.

Snowpiercer – Netflix

From legendary Oscar Winning director Bong Joon Ho, Snowpiercer is a delightful and bleak film about humanity.

As the planet freezes over and the world becomes uninhabitable, a train bearing the last of humanity blazes through the tundra. Along the way the inhabitants turn on each other in class warfare and fight to the death.

With great performances by Chris Evans, Ed Harris and Song Kang-Ho, Snowpiercer is a gem of filmmaking.

Ex Machina – Netflix

Mind bending, terrifying, unreal and beautiful.

What happens when we actually manage to create legitimate artificial intelligence and force it to learn? Ex Machina tries to answer that question, and the answer is horrifying.

Without giving anything away, this movie asks some hard questions about morality. With incredible performances by Oscar Isaac, Domnall Gleeson and Alicia Vikander.

Moon – Netflix

I do not want to spoil any part of this movie, because it is an incredible ride from start to finish.

Sam Rockwell plays Sam Bell, an astronaut on a three year mission on the Moon. As he nears the end of his journey he begins to hear and see things that aren’t there and begins to question his sanity.

With music by Clint Mansell, directed by Duncan Jones and phenomenal acting by Sam Rockwell.

Inception – Netflix

One of Christopher Nolan’s best films, which is saying something, is on Netflix!

Inception follows a team of con men who specialize in a very particular form of theft. They can enter your subconscious and steal your memories, thoughts and ideas, all without you knowing.

Full of twists, turns and incredibly tight pacing. Inception is Nolan and team at their very best!

Annihilation – Hulu

Alex Garland makes another entry on this list with his amazing adaptation of the book.

Annihilation focuses on the journey of a biologist tasked with entering an alien entity and studying it as best she can. The further in her and her team goes, the more they discover how brutal the changes are.

With terrifying encounters (honestly that bear scene gave me nightmares) and terrific pacing. Annihilation is a rare combination of horror and SciFi that works.

Midnight Special – Hulu

When a young boy discovers he has super powers, he attracts the attention of a cult and the government.

Featuring some of the most underappreciated talents of 2016 with phenomenal writing and intense pacing. Not to mention great performances by Michael Shannon, Adam Driver, Kirsten Dunst, Joel Edgerton and Sam Shepard

Midnight Special is unique, extremely underappreciated and worth every second.

Coherence – Amazon Prime

A group of friends experience strange, traumatic and mind boggling events at a dinner party while a comet passes overhead.

Coherence is one of those films that seems to get thrown around a lot but no one ultimately goes to watch it. Despite that it is an incredibly tense and thrilling movie about exploration and humanity at their most base.

Featuring great performances, stellar direction and great storytelling, Coherence is a diamond in the rough!

Super 8 – Amazon Prime

One night, a group of kids trying to film a fun project find themselves witnessing a massive train wreck. Among that wreck was something out of this world.

JJ Abrams directs this taut thrilling film that takes the concept of ET and turns it into an intense nightmare. As havoc is wrecked across the town and the kids fend for themselves, this movie is a roller coaster.

The Boat – Amazon Prime

During a bright sunny day, a fisherman decides to take his small vessel out to fish and explore. When he comes across an abandoned ship he finds himself in more trouble than he bargained for.

This movie is definitely weird and up until the conclusion it’s a great exploration of terror. Especially with the fantastic cinematography, acting, editing and music scores.

The conclusion just kinda comes out of nowhere for those who aren’t paying attention to names and locations.
