Late Monday, President Trump announced he would be signing an executive order”to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States”.
The announcement came just hours after equity markets plunged, with oil prices going into the negative for the first time in history, and states beginning to reveal their plans to ease up on lockdown restrictions.
In his tweet, Trump said the order would come in light of “the Invisible Enemy” – a.k.a. coronavirus – and to protect the “GREAT Americans” of the country. It seems to be a drastic measure that Trump wants to take in an effort to fight the pandemic and boost economy.

The details of the order are still being worked out and the White House has yet to announce any further details about it.
Some political figures came out in support of the president’s decision, such as Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Arizona, who applauded Trump, by saying, “All immigration to the United States should halt until every American who wants a job has one!”
Thank you, @realDonaldTrump! All immigration to the United States should halt until every American who wants a job has one! https://t.co/OGWTk0PKEV

Other, like Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., have criticized the order, saying the president is looking to blame someone else for his failure in handling the coronavirus outbreak.
“Immigration has nearly stopped and the US has far more cases than any other country. This is just xenophobic scapegoating.”
Trump failed to take this crisis seriously from day 1. His abandonment of his role as president has cost lives. And now, he's shamelessly politicizing this pandemic to double down on his anti-immigrant agenda.
Enough, Mr. President. The American people are fed up. https://t.co/pT5edXBIT5

There have already been plenty of travel bans and restrictions put into place since the onset of the virus’ spread, with Americans stopped from traveling to hotspots like Europe, China, Iran, and more.
Trump has been known for wanting to crack down on immigration laws, which has drawn massive support from his allies and incredible criticisms from his opponents. This order is sure to add more fuel to the already-raging fire that’s been present since he took office.
