Disney World Re-Opening in July

Walt Disney World is re-opening, with plans for the theme park to start back up on July 11th.

The massive family theme park has submitted its plan for re-opening to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force group for a multi-phase re-opening process. This comes after being closed for months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The plan was revealed by Walt Disney World News Today, and was later published to the Disney Parks blog. The re-opening process will begin on July 11th with the opening of the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. A few days after that, on July 15th, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot will re-open their doors.

According to the plans, the park will have a limited capacity, with visitors securing their reservation for their day of attendance in advance. The capacity for the park will continue to incrementally increase as the country continues its re-opening phases.

All of the park’s major attractions will use a virtual queue system rather than the usual lines, which will be organized through the My Disney Experience app. Social distancing will have to be maintained in the park and face masks worn at all times. Temperature checks will be mandatory to enter the park.

There have been new signs designed to be placed around the park to explain the new restrictions that all guests must adhere to. There will also be new rules for the cast members who dress as Disney characters in the park, and increased sanitation and cleaning duties.

It is important to note that having this plan does not guarantee that the park will re-open. The plan has been submitted for approval, and must be endorsed by the Orange County mayor before it is submitted to Florida’s governor, Ron De Santis, for final approval. Only then can the park open back up.

The closure of the park was announced back in March with the last day of regular business being March 15th. It is unprecedented for a Disney park to remain closed for this amount of time.

Having Walt Disney World re-opening will surely help many of us feel like a semblance of normalcy is returning, but we will all be anxious to see how it all pans out.
