Nolan’s Newest Film Releasing Elsewhere

After many delays, Warner Bros. has announced that Christopher Nolan’s Tenet will release internationally before it is able to release in the U.S.

Variety reports that Tenet will release in 70 international territories, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Russia, and the United Kingdom on August 26th, with Canada following on August 27th. It will then make its way to select North American markets on September 3rd.

Warner Bros. has previously said that they would be flexible with the film’s release and wouldn’t treat it as a usual kind of movie release, due to the United States’ struggles with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. They said they’d be considering it elsewhere before bringing it to the U.S. Now, they’ve decided to go that route.

Tenet Will Release Internationally Before U.S.

The Smart Move to Make

It’s because other countries have had far more success and commitment to flattening the curve of the virus, something which the U.S. has not had at all. It currently has the highest amount of confirmed cases in the world.

Warner Bros. is hopeful that the film will be able to release in China, who has blocked movies that run over 2 hours, with Tenet being 2 hours and 20 minutes.

A New Mind-Bender

Tenet is the latest blockbuster from Nolan and it has kept in line with his usual secrecy that surrounds his films. What we do know is that the film is about international espionage with a time-bending twist. It stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Kenneth Branagh, and Michael Caine.

With the film releasing overseas before here, that certainly increases the risk of spoilers spreading online before we are able to see the film. However, Christopher Nolan’s commitment to a theatrical release and our country’s inability to get itself together, that is just something we have to deal with.

If we have Tenet spoiled for us because people can’t wear their masks, we will not be happy.
