After the recent reveal that Canada was officially on the downslope in terms of active cases, death toll rose. While this trend continues, current projections put Canada in a fortuitous place.
Recently a new projection and report came out of Canada showing the country is nearing its best-case scenario. So, what does that really mean?
#COVID19Ontario latest:
• 525 new cases, marking 3.5 per cent increase in total cases over yesterday
• provincial total now 15,381
• 59 more deaths, bringing total to 951
• resolved cases jumped from 8,525 to 8,964
• 10,852 tests completed yesterday, 253,040 tests total— Tina Yazdani (@TinaYazdani) April 28, 2020
Essentially, the new report shows that roughly every 16 days, COVID has been doubling in active cases. Before this report, it was every three to five days that the case count was doubled. Effective doubling up rate has been decreased by more than 50%.

Canada’s projected death toll is between 3000 and 4000 people by early May, which is when analysts predict it’ll slow the most.
In terms of Canada’s ethnically and demographic findings with the fatalities, it seems to confirm most suspicions. Roughly 95% of their fatalities were from the ages of 55 – 70, and 45% of those deaths were male.
Comparisons Show Strong Similarity to the US
This news confirms the findings that were announced recently with New York. Wherein almost every single death came from the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.
Unfortunately, Canada has no plans to start easing any sort of segregational activities. Their medical staff believe that until a vaccine is present and available, it’s too much of a risk for herd immunity to take place.
Meaning that; until we have a guaranteed way to spread antibodies, Canada will remain in lockdown. When mounting pressure from business owners failed to make an impression with Ontario’s Doug Ford, it’s not hard to see this going nowhere.
COVID is expected to remain even after a vaccine is developed. Currently believing that it will become a seasonal virus that a vaccine will fight every 2 – 3 years. As we sit around waiting for things to reopen, we can take comfort in the fact that the case count is lowering.
