Mad Dog Mattis Counsels the People Against Trump’s Administration

From Enemies Both Foreign and Domestic

House of cards has never been more relevant a show to watch right now. As Donald Trump’s administration continues to buckle under mounting pressure from both inside and outside. One of the more off and on supporters of Trump is that of General Jim Mattis.

Mattis is the former Defense Secretary of the United States and aide to the Trump Administration in matters of national security. While he went back and forth on supporting Trump as a President, Trump’s Supporters always looked up to Mattis.

Reason being, Mattis is extremely blunt, honest and pragmatic. He speaks from his gut and moves forward with whatever he believes to be the best course of action. Which is why he’s developed a strong following from Trump’s supporting groups, even in the eventuality of the disagreements.

Yesterday evening, Jim Mattis gave his two cents on the George Floyd protests and Trump’s handling of them. This time, he didn’t just say one thing and let the gravitas hang. He wrote an entire essay on Trump, the protests and more on The Atlantic.

Much like the man himself, it packs quite enough punch.

“We are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We can unite without him, drawing on the strengths inherent in our civil society. This will not be easy, as the past few days have shown, but we owe it to our fellow citizens; to past generations that bled to defend our promise; and to our children.”

General Mattis went even further, saying that he never believed that the oaths he took would see him violating his own Constitution. Not to mention how he felt about leaving the Trump Administration back in 2018.

“to violate the Constitutional rights of their fellow citizens — much less to provide a bizarre photo op for the elected commander-in-chief, with military leadership standing alongside.”

As stated above, Mattis is known for being brutally honest and blunt with the way he approaches issues. He says things that he believes to be worth saying.

Respect is a Two Way Street

Where things get rather tough is Donald Trump’s response to Mattis, which is being universally agreed on as disrespectful. Particularly to a former Defense Secretary and a respected Military general.

You’ll have to make your own decisions as to where things stand on Trump’s decision to call out Mattis. Public opinion in general is starting to slide against Trump every day that the protests continue. Where things really spiked and became volatile was the Lafayette Park Protest.

During the Lafayette Park protest, many believe that Constitution and Amendment Rights were violated by police. After Trump supported the response by the cops and took the opportunity for a photo op, opinion became very jaded.

Not to say that Trump is all of the sudden at the bottom of the totem pole. He still has his own group of supporters that will fight for his side tooth and nail. We’re not here to sway an opinion, but the Mattis update is not helping either side out right now.

For now, it seems that Trump, Mattis and the protests will continue to be a hot topic to both sides of the issue.
