10 BEST Movies Available with Amazon Prime

Amazon has an absolute load of movies and TV series on offer. Whether it’s through Prime Video offerings or to rent. It can be a bit overwhelming trying to determine whether or not something is worth watching. Luckily, we’ve got you covered!

Annihilation – SciFi/Horror

We’ve recommended this movie once before on our “BEST SciFi” movies article, and honestly it’s worth a second entry.

Telling the fictional story of a group of researchers that venture into an alien artifact and discover a new world. Annihilation is equal parts horrifying, mesmerizing and impeccably well paced.

The plot will keep you guessing up to the very end, the characters will make sure you stay invested. And the haunting, terrifying encounters/visuals will make sure it sticks in your head.

Rambo: Last Blood – Action

Depending on who you ask, this movie is way too violent and over the top, or just enough to be a fun watch. Personally, I still think the original Rambo is much better, but Last Blood is a good action flick.

Buckets of blood, gore and visceral hard hitting Stallone fights. This movie will absolutely satisfy an action itch if that’s what you’ve been aching to watch.

Last Blood certainly caught a lot of flack for its portrayal of Latino-Americans, ultimately that decision is up to you.

Honey Boy – Drama

Written by actor Shia Labeouf, Honey Boy is a harsh look at what exactly becoming a Hollywood star entails.

The fictional story of a dysfunctional father and son as they try various ways to make themselves famous. Honey Boy is all about understanding where people come from and learning to be yourself in a world that demands compromise.

It’s funny, heartbreaking, effective and exquisitely acted!

You Were Never Really Here – Psychological Drama

If you love action movies that make you think, then this movie will scratch one of those itches.

Joaquin Phoenix plays a dysfunctional war veteran who specializes in black market work. Usually just working on finding missing persons, but finds himself in too deep when a job goes wrong.

This movie honestly hurts to watch in some places. Not because it’s poorly made, far from it, it’s just unrelentingly harsh and real.

Last Flag Flying – Drama

If You Were Never Really Here made you cry, then this movie will make you bawl like a baby.

When a young soldier is killed in action, his father must travel across the US to retrieve his body. Fearing that he can’t do it alone he enlists the help of his former military buddies.

Equal parts road trip, drama and historical fiction. Last Flag Flying is an effectively sobering look at the reality of what can tear a family apart.

Beautiful Boy – Drama

Timothee Chalamet and Steve Carrel give career best performances in this hard hitting movie about substance abuse.

When his son finds himself sliding further down the slope and becomes addicted to heroin, his father tries to help him. As they continue to clash and struggle to cope with the world around them, we have to watch.

This movie is a sobering reminder to love those who are close to you. And to remember that nobody can fix themselves without help from people who love them.

Manchester By the Sea – Drama

Poignant, sad and uplifting all in one. Manchester by the Sea is a masterpiece in storytelling and acting.

Casey Affleck plays the role of a solitary janitor who is permanently affected by a tragedy he blames himself for. When he comes into a guardian role for his 16 year old nephew, his life is forever altered.

This movie is something else to behold really. Casey Affleck lays it all out on the screen and deserves every award that was thrown his way for it.

Gringo – Dark Comedy

If you enjoyed movies like In Bruges then this movie will be right up your alley!

Focusing on the story of a man who becomes an unwitting criminal and the relentless pursuit he finds himself running away from. Gringo is a fantastic ride from start to finish!

With hilarious performances by leads David Oyelowo and Joel Edgerton. This movie is well worth a watch!

Honestly surprised this movie doesn’t come up in more conversations about action comedies.

Logan Lucky – Comedy

When a pair of brothers set out to try and reverse a family curse by hoisting a large robbery, things go wrong.

Things go very wrong from pretty much the very beginning. Stars Adam Driver, Channing Tatum and Daniel Craig are hysterical in this film. From beginning to end you’ll be laughing until there’s tears in your eyes.

Warrior – Drama/Sports

There’s definitely some personal bias in this selection, but I promise it’s because of how truly good this film is.

Warrior tells the story of two brothers who are separated by tragedy. As they both cope with different decisions, they try to find ways to regain a sense of happiness.

Happiness comes in the form of a large scale UFC fight that both brothers are uniquely qualified for. When things come to a head, this movie goes full tilt on the violence and drama.

Featuring Oscar-worthy performances from Tom Hardy, Nick Nolte and Joel Edgerton. Warrior is chock full of amazing action and hard hitting emotions.

In Summary

And that’s our list folks! With some absolutely amazing choices for those of you who have Amazon Prime, there’s never been a better time to invest some time in.

Whether you want some hard hitting action, tear jerking drama or side splitting comedy. Amazon has something for everyone, and much more that we didn’t even mention in this article!
